On going projects to improve school life

Septic Tank

The school had separate indoor toilets for boys and girls installed on the ground floor last year, thanks to the generosity of members of Alresford Rotary. However, the facilities remain uncommissioned and unused due to the prohibitive cost of installing a septic tank. The volcanic ground conditions make excavation particularly difficult and expensive.
We are currently setting aside funds each month to work towards completing this project, but progress is slow. We would greatly appreciate any donation or support from a building company to help us install the septic system and finally make these essential facilities operational for the students.
Any assistance—whether financial, materials, or expertise—would make a significant difference and help improve the daily lives and wellbeing of the children.

Security Wall

The stonemasons and wrought iron workers have almost completed the security fence at the front of the school. This has been a significant challenge, as the volcanic rock is difficult to work with and the builders rely entirely on manual labour rather than mechanical equipment.
The school is committed to employing local craftsmen and labourers, all of whom are dedicated workers. Their employment not only supports the progress of the construction but also helps the local community to prosper.
The next phase is to extend the security wall around the sides and rear of the property. This will be another substantial and costly project that will require additional funding.

Extending the electricity supply

The school currently has mains electricity connected, but not everywhere . There is an urgent need to extend the supply to the rest of the main building and also to the outside toilets and the other buildings on the school grounds so that staff can use electrical equipment and children living on-site can be safe at all times.

Unfinished classrooms: the walls require plastering and painting, and the floors need to be screeded.

Making the classrooms more habitable

Once the electricity has been extended to the first floor, the rooms will need to be completed. The classrooms and dormitories already have glazed windows and doors installed; however, to make the building more habitable, further internal finishing is required. This includes plastering and painting the ceilings and walls, as well as screeding the floors.

Dormitory beds and bedding

Children in the top class (Year 6) sit entrance examinations to attend the local secondary school. These exams are challenging, and to support the pupils, the school offers them the opportunity to ‘board’ for several months. This allows them to benefit from additional lessons and more focused study time, free from the usual distractions of home life and responsibilities, giving them the best possible chance of success.
To make this possible, we need to provide suitable dormitory accommodation. This includes essential items such as 16 ‘decker’ beds, 32 mattresses, and 32 blankets to ensure the children have a safe, comfortable place to rest during their stay.
We would be extremely grateful for any donations or support—whether financial or in the form of materials—to help us equip the dormitory and give these children the opportunity to reach their full potential.
