…vulnerable children will be able to sleep and eat there too

The school partially opened on the 10th of January 2022, when Covid-19 restrictions were lifted in Uganda and it was granted a licence to operate by the Ugandan Government. It aims to provide a safe environment, an education, food, love, support, play, medical treatment and more for vulnerable children and babies suffering extreme poverty, children dumped and abandoned, but above all it aims to give children the opportunity to escape poverty and give them hope for a future, hope for a better life…

The Emily Collins School is on the outskirts of Kisoro in SW Uganda, very close to the borders with Rwanda and the DRC. When I say close, I mean very close… less than 10km.

The Emily Collins School is one of Ours Father’s House Ministries (OFHM) main projects. The school building is nowhere near finished but the ground floor currently comprises 4 classrooms, an office, a small infirmary/nursery, a community hall and large outside play area. There are toilet facilities inside the building and there is an outside toilet block which can accommodate wheelchair/ disabled person access. Mains electricity is expected to be be connected very soon and mains water has already been installed but supplies are limited and only arrive infrequently so large water tanks are still used on a daily basis.

The plans include building another two floors to make this a three storey building which will contain a fully equipped nursery, infirmary and accommodation for homeless children.

At present here are approximately 80 children attending the school and it employs 7 teachers, a matron, 2 cooks and a cleaner. These have all been recruited from the local community as have all of the suppliers and workers who have been involved in building the school. It is very much a community project…
